The purpose of this study is to investigate historical backgrounds, maintenance, revision, and application areas of UDC(Universal Decimal Classification) in order to understand current issues of it systematically. Since 1905, UDC has been extensively developed and is now administered by UDC Consortium(UDCC). UDCC updates MRF(Master Reference File), an electronic form of the UDC schedules, once a year. UDC updates and publishes standard edition, extended edition, and abridged edition according to the degrees of notion abridgement, and is available on the web. UDC can be now applicable to collection arrangement, SDI(Selective Dissemination of Information) service, searching subject bibliographies, switching language or subject gateway and metadata on the Internet, and automatic classification.

This study examined the impact of team characteristics(the introducing process of team, discretionary power of team members, leadership of team leader, open communication between team members, director's will) on team effectiveness(adaptability to the circumstances, job satisfaction, the positive team culture, cost efficiency) in university libraries. The data for the analysis were collected from staffs at 37 university libraries. The major findings from the empirical analysis are as follows. The well-prepared introduction of team and director's strong will were positively related to the team effectiveness variables such as adaptability to environment, job satisfaction, and cost efficiency.

This study is an analysis of the prisoners' and the pre-trial prisoners' rights based on the laws and rules, and court cases. Rights included are the right to know and the access to information, the right to legal representation, and the right of education, all of them can be protected when the prison libraries are administered. In order to protect the prisoners' and pre-trial prisoners' rights, the necessity for the establishment of prison library is discussed and the direction of prison library system is suggested.
