The Russo-Japanese war(1904-1905) occurred shortly after the negotiation between Russia and Japan came to end in vain. We has disregarded this war for the reason that the power-expanding struggle between imperialistic nations, led to the loss of sovereignty of our nation and left a tragic history of Japan's colony.
But I found that the roar of firing by the sudden attack of Japan had started not at Ruisoon harber(旅順港 奇襲), but at Incheon harbor(仁川海戰, Jaemulpo) and Korean peninsular had became ‘the second field of war’, left devastated. Therefore, we should regard the meaning of battles on the sea and land of Korean peninsular.
I will assert that the Russo-Japanese war cannot be overlooked because it is directly involved in our fate and interest and that we didn’t look on the situation. For this purpose, I will reveal the truth of the battle on the sea-Incheon battle as the openning of the Russo-Japanese War, the battles on the land-the Jungjoo battle(定州戰鬪), the Yalu River battle(鴨綠江戰鬪).
Specially Ground battle in Korea(the second field of war) like as battles in Jungjoo and Yalu River have a significant meaning as early one in the Russo-Japanese war in the sense that military and strategic attitudes of Russia and Japan on those battles reflected the whole aspect of the war. Japan closely prepared the battles in advance, and actively congregated the military forces to the Korean peninsular through Seoul-Pyongyang-Yalu R., while Russia was left in a defenseless state. The strategic purpose of Russia in Korea was aimed at decentralization of the main forces of Japan.
That is why, ground battles in Korean peninsular in the early of Russo-Japanese war resulted in Russia`s loss of the initiative of whole war to Japan in spite of severe offensive and defensive battle.
