AB - The purpose of this paper is to understand the trans-editing of Chinese-to-Korean translated news and analyze the types and usefulness of translation strategies. The finding shows that, all five strategies suggested in this study, including deletion, addition, substitution, reorganization, and division were identified, with deletion and substitution being the most actively used. Although division was found in only one case, its significance lies in revealing new possibilities for news trans-editing. Furthermore, the analysis data showed that translators actively engage in trans-editing elements such as “shoulder titles,” “long titles and leads” and “prose expressions” unique to Chinese news, thereby enhancing the acceptability of translated news. Through an examination of trans-editing cases using relevance theory, numerous insights were derived. It emphasized the significance of accurately gauging the cognitive level of the target audience during trans-editing. When supplementing information to the target audience, it is crucial to keep it as concise as possible. Effective utilization of metaphorical expressions in title trans-editing can significantly enhance relevance.
