ABSTRACT

This study examines undergraduate students’ approach to group interpreting practice and their perceptions. A semi-structured questionnaire was administered to twenty students in undergraduate interpreting programs in South Korea. The findings reveal that these students had a fairly good understanding of the value of group interpreting practice, believing that it contributes to improving their interpreting skills. They expressed a preference for feedback comments that emphasized accuracy, vocabulary, syntax, delivery, and non-verbal aspects of communication. They also underlined the importance of receiving peer feedback from various practice partners and sharing practical knowledge and skills among themselves. However, they were critical of delinquent attitudes and offensive feedback. They valued in-person practice sessions for their immersive and intuitive experience, while they favored remote practice sessions for their convenience. In light of these findings, the study proposes a useful checklist for group interpreting practice.
