ABSTRACT

This study explores co-translator networks involved in translating Korean literature into English, employing Social Network Analysis (SNA). With growing interest in the sociology of translation, particularly regarding interactions between various actors in the translation process, collaborative translation has emerged as a key topic in Translation Studies. Utilizing extensive bibliographic data from the Literature Translation Institute of Korea, this research maps and analyzes co-translation networks, focusing on Korean-to-English literary translations. It examines the structural characteristics of these networks, identifying key actors and patterns. The study addresses two central questions: (1) What is the current state of co-translation in translating Korean literature into English? (2) What are the structural features of these collaborative networks? Through a comprehensive network analysis of 912 translations involving 442 translators, the study highlights the dynamics of collaborative translation practices, contributing to a deeper understanding of the sociological dimensions of literary translation. This research provides valuable insights into the collaborative processes and relationships that shape the translation of Korean literature into English, offering a fresh perspective on the interplay between translators in the literary field.
