ABSTRACT

This paper investigates the roles and responsibilities of in-house translators within government organizations, focusing on how administrative responsibilities shape their professional experiences. Through in-depth interviews with translators who take on administrative tasks alongside traditional translation tasks, the paper examines how this role shift impacts their professional functions, identities, and the challenges and advantages they face. The findings highlight both the benefits and limitations of incorporating administrative work into the translators' core responsibilities. While administrative tasks are seen as a competitive advantage in the face of technological advancements, participants expressed differing views on their professional status and identity, shaped by the organizational contexts in which they work. This paper offers insights for aspiring translators, helping them navigate their career paths and develop a clear professional vision within government organizations.
