This study examined the realism tendency in the dance art of the 20th century and analyzed how the expression characteristics of the dance reflected the realism art that was related to the society and the reality of the time. The expression characteristics of the dance in the 20th century can be summarized as follows; the realistic expression that reflected the reality of the time, criticism of the reality, social participating expression and creative expression toward new change. Realism in dance has not been theorized with clear concept. Moreover, it is hard to find an analysis on specific dancers or work of dance, made with a realistic perspective. This study has a necessity of research and implications in that it examined realism represented in the process of modernization of dance in the 20th century, based on understanding of realism.

Modern dance that emerged as a dance that can express human spirit and inner side naturally was good genre to represent the topics related to discrimination, poverty, reform and etc. in connection with circumstances of the times. The dancer who had particular interest in social issues was Helen Tamiris(1902-1966). Tamiris expressed the US social issues of those days boldly through dance works to the theme of necessity for social justice, racism, poverty and war, etc. And she participated in development of modern dance that was known as concert dance with modern dancers of those days Purpose of this study is to examine the social tendency appearing in the work of Tamiris. In order to fulfill the purpose of study, the researcher intends to study the social tendency in the dance arts in the 1930s first and then discuss social dance works of Tamiris and their choreographic tendency.

The purpose of the study is to propose educational implications provided by narrative perspective through teachers' self-criticism of teaching in dance classes connected with creative experience activity in elementary school. This study is a narrative study on teaching criticism and was composed of qualitative research to describe, analyze, interpret, and evaluate teaching by making as an analysis text teaching phenomenon. Findings of the study were crystallized as follows. First, it was found that teaching contents were composed of development levels and teaching objectives, mind and body flexible, and theme associated with playing elements. Second, teaching methods were observed that theme selection and actualization by step, questioning systems, inquiry and development of movements, storytelling of cooperative learning and movements and so forth were applied. Third, it was found that teaching experience and criticism of the dance class were contributing to the teacher's growth narrative.
