AB - In the summer of 2007, I happened to find some errors in the English information boards in Gwanghalluwon Area. I checked eight information boards. I wrote and published a paper on spelling mistakes of proper nouns in them, and this is a kind of sister paper of that, because the same information boards were examined in a different aspect.
The titles of the information board are “The Whole Area of Gwanghanru”, “Gwanghanru”, “Gwanghallu Pavilion & Ojak-gyo Bridge”, “Ojakgyo Bridge”, “Chunhyang Shrine”, “Wolmae's House”, “Wanwoljeong Pavilion”, and “Rainbow Fountain on Seungwol-gyo Bridge”.
The errors were examined in the following sub-sections: articles, context, excessive explanation and omission, lack of understanding cultural elements, and grammar. Though almost all the information board can be examined in the whole sub-section, each information board is checked only onve in one sub-section.
The examination naturally leads to the conclusion that all the information board contains much more than one mistakes. I am afraid that this conclusion can be applied to the other information boards of other places in Korea. It is necessary to check and correct all the information boards, if there is any errors.
