AB - Idioms are widely used in movies and dramas as well as in daily conversations. This paper mainly explores idiomatic expressions found in the Bible. We can notice that word by word translation of English idioms into Korean may sound strange. For instance, the expression ‘Break a leg,’ commonly used in English to convey good luck, loses its intended meaning when directly translated into Korean. Research on correct translation or interpretation of English idiomatic expressions contained in Bible verses into Korean is nearly nonexistent. Therefore, an in-depth study on its implementation is required to ensure correct comprehension of both the English and the Korean versions of the Bible. As observed in the illustrations provided in the research paper, a literal translation may fail to capture the essence or significance of the original text when encountering idiomatic expressions in Bible verses. Specifically, the accurate interpretation of English idiomatic expressions holds significant importance in ensuring a thorough comprehension. It falls upon translation specialists to facilitate a clearer understanding for Korean readers, guiding them through the intricacies of the text and ensuring readability as well as faithfulness.
