This study explores the use of ChatGPT in translation education, focusing on its application in a “Cultural Translation” class. The teacher-researcher examines how ChatGPT can assist in various aspects of the educational process, including curriculum design, syllabus preparation, and teaching methods, by generating prompts and analyzing its responses. The study outlines the process by which ChatGPT was utilized to prepare class materials, demonstrating that it can save teachers significant time and effort in sourcing or creating texts. Practical scenarios are presented to demonstrate ChatGPT’s effectiveness in generating translations and providing teaching insights. By using a series of questions and answers, the study illustrates how ChatGPT can aid in course preparation, highlighting specific examples where the AI’s assistance proved beneficial. In addition to practical applications, the study discusses ethical considerations and emphasizes the necessity for instructors to be proficient in using AI tools. The findings suggest that AI will play a crucial role in the future of translation education, highlighting the importance of human-AI collaboration to enhance educational outcomes. The study offers recommendations for the effective and ethical use of ChatGPT in translator training.
