ABSTRACT

This study aims to introduce the supervision strategies for translating characters in the process of dubbing from the perspective of a process-oriented research. To do this, three types of data are analyzed. First, the author compares and analyzes the ST and five TTs appearing in the dubbing process. Second, the author describes the decision-making of the researcher/supervisor with the think-aloud protocol. Third, the researcher/supervisor describes the factors that influenced translating characters by observing the client, the dubbing director, and voice actors. The findings showed that different strategies are applied according to the distinct features, the various situations and relationships of each character. This paper is expected to be the basis of research that can open the ‘black box’ of the dubbing process which is little known until now.
