The study aimed at identifying the causes of the high level of health application but the low level of use. In other words, the effects of user’s innovation resistance (use barrier, value barrier, risk barrier, traditional barrier, image barrier, etc.) were examined. For this study, 378 valid responses were collected by conducting surveys with college students. Findings indicated the higher the level of image barrier of the user, the higher the degree of innovation resistance for the health application, and the higher the degree of innovation resistance, the lower intention of continuous use and recommendation. In addition, the level of use barriers, value barriers and traditional barriers did not have a significant effect on the degree of innovation resistance, suggesting that users familiar with smartphones have low resistance to health applications. The study deepens the theoretical discussion about the adoption and continuous use of new technologies by explaining the use of health applications in the theory of innovation resistance. The findings of the study provide the practical implications that lowering the image barriers rather than the usage barriers, value barriers and traditional barriers will be effective for the adoption and continuous use of health applications.

This study aimed to analyze library anxiety among international users in various aspects and make suggestions for alleviating library anxiety. Subjects were ‘international users using the academic library’ not only including international students but also including international professors and researchers to analyze library anxiety in various aspects. S university with most international users was selected for the study, and the surveys were distributed. The questionnaires completed by 369 international users were analyzed. The overall average of library anxiety among international users is 2.96, and ‘knowledge of the library’ appears to be the greatest source of library anxiety among international users. An analysis revealed that variables including status, nationality, library instruction, the reason for using the library, Korean proficiency, and cultural understanding contributed significantly to the library anxiety level. Based on these findings, recommendations for library service, staffing, environment, and resources were made to help alleviate library anxiety.

This study analyzed Korean children’s books that include ethnically and racially diverse characters, focusing on representation of ethnic minority and cultural sensitivity. Drawing from fiction recommendations by Happy Morning Reading from 2005 to 2017, only 32 books out of 3,214 books, less than 1%, include people with racially and ethnically diverse background. Among the 32 books, 23 featured educative messages inspired by the belief of social justice; four could be categorized as so-called ‘melting pot’ books, five depicted stories featuring characters that respect different cultures from their own. The issue tackled in the stories differed with the economical standing of the character’s country of origin. When a character or her/his parent is from a developing country, the main issues of the book were racial discrimination, bullying, hostility against foreign-born parents, or harsh experience of migrant workers. On the other hand, when a character or her/his parent is from a developed country, the plots often surround the character’s hopes, wishes, or personal worries. Only one book was illustrated by a person with immigration background; the others were all written and illustrated by Koreans with no immigration background.
