The World Health Organization estimated that more than a billion people(or 15% of the world’s population) lives with disabilities. They have the same information needs as non-disabled people. Nevertheless, as the World Blind Union estimated, less than 10% of published books are ever made into accessible formats in developed countries. The role of the national library should be very important to improve the information accessibility for the disabled. Based on this perspective, this study analyzed and compared the history and development, legal basis and organization, main functions and tasks, and service features for the disabled for the Library of Congress of the United States, MTM(Myndigheten för Tillgängliga Medier) of Sweden, National Diet Library of Japan, and SALB(South African Library for the Blind) of Republic of South Africa representing the nationwide disability services by continent. And based on the results of the analysis, this study suggested ways to strengthen the capacity of the National Library for the Disabled of Korea.

This study aims to propose an extended OAK metadata for research data that would be described in OAK, an open access repository of the National Library of Korea. As a research method, literature review, case studies, and interviews with related parties were conducted. The method of extending the existing OAK metadata for research data was derived as follows. First, in modeling for research data, the structure of the collection> item> file is maintained, the collection is placed as a higher group to which the research data can be grouped, and item was combined metadata and files or digital objects of various formats together. Second, by mapping the metadata standard and case organizations with the existing OAK metadata, elements judged to need to be extended to OAK for research data were selected and reflected in the existing OAK. Third, the controlled vocabulary and syntax are also proposed so that it can be used for search or later statistics through structured data. By expanding the OAK metadata to describe research data, research data produced in Korea can be officially stored and used, which is the basis for preventing duplication of research and sharing and recycling research results nationally.

Library Week was established in 1964 and has continued without interruption for 56 years. It has grown to become one of the largest and most important activities within the library field today. The Korean Library Association publicly selects slogans to be used for Library Week publicity purposes and their poster advertising campaign. A study and evaluation analyzing slogan contents was performed to determine the overall effects of these slogans on the public and provide suggestions for more effective and focused slogans as part of a branding strategy. To achieve this purpose, the contents of 116 official slogans of the library week were analyzed according to the linguistic techniques and key words suggested by Young-Jun Park (2001). As a result, there were 103 slogans (88.79%) composed of only ‘Korean characters’. And the key scoring type with the highest number of hits was the word ‘sentences’ 46 units (39.66%). Furthermore the word in the slogans resulting in the highest number of hits was ‘library’ with 111 units (96.52%). Therefore, it can be said that most of the weekly slogans of the library are ‘sentence type’ consisting of ‘Korean characters’ containing the word ‘library’.
